Jakub Jankto: Czech Republic international comes out as gay in social media statement
Following Adelaide United defender Josh Cavallo and Blackpool striker Jake Daniels, Getafe midfielder Jakub Junkt has come out as gay after loaning to Sparta Prague 3 Became a soccer player.
Jakub Jankut of the Czech Republic is the most prominent current male footballer to come out as gay.
Jankut, who plays for Sparta in his Prague on loan from Getafe, revealed his own sexuality in a Twitter post, stating:
“I don’t want to hide anymore”
The 27-year-old midfielder has played for Sampdoria and Udinese in Italy, for which he has 45 caps.
In a video on Twitter, Junkt said:
“Hello, I’m Jakub Junkt. Like everyone else, I have strengths and weaknesses. I have a family, I have friends. I have a job to do, with seriousness, professionalism and passion.
“Like everyone else, I want to live my life free, without fear, without prejudice, without violence, but with love. I’m gay and I don’t want to hide it anymore. ”
The message at the end of the video is:
“This is not entertainment. The purpose of this video is to encourage others.”
Jankto follows in the footsteps of Australia’s Josh Cavallo, who came out publicly in 2021, and Blackpool’s Jake Daniels, the only current British male player to come out gay.
Jankto’s post was quickly followed by messages of support, with Sparta Prag saying on his Twitter:
“Some time ago, Jakub Junkt spoke candidly about his sexual orientation with the club’s management, coaches and teammates.
“Everything else concerns his private life. No further comments. No further questions.” We have our support. Live your life Jacob. nothing else matters. ”
The Premier League responded to Junkt’s tweet by saying:
“We are with you, Jakub. Football belongs to everyone.”
The Professional Football Association added:
“Well said, Jakub. We are all on your side!”
“Live your own life, Jakub. Proud.”
