ATLETICO MADRID 3-1 REAL MADRID: ALVARO MORATA AT THE DOUBLE

Atletico Madrid affirmed its bragging rights with a 3-1 victory over Real Madrid in La Liga. Alvaro Morata scored a brace and Antoine Griezman scored the other as Real’s 100% start to the season came to a shuddering halt. Toni Kroos scored for the visitors, but it was a rare highlight on a difficult evening for Real. This means Barcelona remains top with 16 points, one point ahead of Real.

Alvaro Morata scored twice as Atletico Madrid beat Real Madrid to win the first capital derby of the season.
Atleti got off to the perfect start when Samuel Lino’s cross from the left was saved by Morata’s header in the fourth minute.
The lead was then widened when Antoine Griezm jumped back to head in Saul Niguez’s cross.

Real had plenty of possession but were mainly threatened by long-range shots and one from Toni Kroos left Jan Oblak unable to stop as he dived uselessly down the right.
The visitors were the better team in the first half, but a minute after kick-off, Atleti took the lead when Saul’s perfect cross was headed in by Morata for his third goal of the day.
The closest Real Madrid players came to reducing the deficit were Aurélien Tchouameni and Antonio Rudiger while Mario Hermoso headed over the crossbar at the other end of the field.
The result leaves Real Madrid in third place in the rankings, while Diego Simeone’s side move up to fifth place.
